Steve Sauer - comfort in 17 square meters

Boeing doesn't keep bad people, and engineer Steve Sauer is a good example. He spent 7 years of his life furnishing his home in one of the Seattle condominiums, with an area of nothing - 182 square feet. Translated into Russian - about 17 square meters. And despite such cramped conditions, Steve managed to create a role model.

An article in The Seattle Times (authored by Rebecca Teagarden) is dedicated to Sauer's cozy home, from which we learned a lot of useful information about a three-level, multi-functional housing that has everything you need - a small kitchen space (cafe area), a bathroom-shower room, a living room with built-in home theater and a bed for two.

The layout of the premises provides for accommodation in an apartment for two people, owners of two large bicycles.

Right behind the front door on the left is the bathroom, the tub tray is built into the floor and covered with a translucent acrylic 3form Chroma panel.

One bike "lives" in the corridor, the second one is attached to the ceiling for storage.

The bathroom walls are covered with 1-inch tiles from Tiles for Less. The ceiling is made of heat-resistant glass bought from Ikea (in fact, it should be the surface of a dining table). The toilet is Duravit brand (designer Philippe Stark). The holder for the shower and towels is a personal invention of the owner.

If you look closely, you can see that a light panel is installed between the bathroom and the kitchen, which provides light to both rooms.

Sauer bought many household items from Ikea, such as a small table with legs (called tabletops) that decorated his office.

In the photo below, Sauer is checking his mail at the dinner table. The owner is ready to receive guests in the kitchen, the table has a drop board (leaf). Lowes Frigidaire compact built-in refrigerator.

The relaxation room can accommodate two and watch TV or a movie on a fairly large screen.

  1. Great!
But 7 years, of course, is a lot ... I partially use these ideas when I design my own dacha. I especially liked the bed option.

  2. Well done, in such a little room to make a beauty.
And judging by the 2 greats, not one lives. Of course, you will not always find the right things with us, even from the same Ikea it is sometimes difficult to order.
